Using Google Apps for email
Posted by David Hall on 24 November 2008 01:02 PM
When setting up email we recommend using Google Apps for your domain, this is a fully featured mail system with plenty of storage, a great spam filter and webmail (Google also allow POP access).

All mail accounts set up will be able to send and receive mail from you@yourdomain.com

The signup page can be found at the address below (the standard edition is free):
http://www.google.com/a/cpanel/domain/new

We realize that the signup process can be a little tricky and our team are happy to configure your domain name to get you up and running. If you want us to do the configuration work please send us an email making sure you include all the following information:

1. Your easywebstore username
2. Your domain name
3. An email address (not on the domain name above) that we can use to contact you on.
4. A contact telephone number.
5. The name of the domain registration company you bought the domain from (if you know it)
6. The username and password for the domain registration companies admin area (if you know it)
7. A list of emails addresses you require eg; sales@yourdomain.com, yourname@yourdomain.com

We will then fully configure your mail admin area and then hand it over to you.

If you have domains or mail with us or on our old mail system we would still recommend switching to the Google Apps version. Just send us an email with the details requested above and make sure you let us know you already have mail or a domain with us and we will make the switch (you can obviously omit numbers 5 and 6).

Why have we switched to recommending Google Apps?

Historically we have offered free mailboxes with the price of our system (many of our competitors charged extra for this service). We have been finding that the continuous support involved in running mail servers has been increasing, customers were requiring more mailbox space, better webmail and a better spam filter. Spam in particular has been a factor in recommending using a third party alternative. Google provide a free and full featured mail system and we decided that a better alternative to providing and supporting our own solution would be to assist with migration onto the Google Apps platform. Our customers get a better mail solution for no cost and our team can concentrate on supporting and development the easywebstore system.
