First you will need to create a Facebook fan page for your company. It must be a fan page or a facebook account dedicated to your business. Groups are not supported.
Step 1 - Create a Fan Page or Facebook Account for your business
To create a fan page go to http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php and follow the instructions.
If you have an entire facebook account dedicated to your business then you don't need a fan page, but you can have one if you wish. The choice is yours.
Step 2 - Associate it with your domain
Once created you will need to associate your website's domain name with your fan page.
- Go to http://www.facebook.com/insights/
- Click the green button labelled "Insights for your domain"
- Enter your store's domain in the field called "Domain". Do not include the "www" or "http://".
i.e. We would enter "easywebstore.net"
- In the "Link With" field select the Facebook account name that has "(You)" after it.
Below that field you will see a piece of HTML code that will look something like the following:
<meta property="fb:admins" content="123456789123" />
See that long number? Make a note of it and label it "Admin ID".
If you have an entire facebook account specifically for your business and you do not want a fan page then you can skip step 5. Do not click "Check Domain".
- Next, if you have a fan page for your business, change the "Link With" dropdown to the name of that fan page.
Below the HTML code will change to something like:
<meta property="fb:page_id" content="182500608456857" />
Note that it now says "fb:page_id" instead of "fb:admins". Again, make a note of the long number and label it "Page ID" this time. Do not click "Check Domain".
- Now log into your EasyWebstore admin area and go to "Account Details" at the top.
Enter the Admin ID and, if applicable, the Page ID in the appropriate fields on that page and click Update.
If you do not have a fan page, don't enter anything into the Page ID field.
- Go back to the Facebook page where you have the popup showing the "Check Domain" button and now click that button.
Facebook will now check your homepage to see if the relevant meta tags are present, which they should be, and this will conclude the process of associtating your domain with your Facebook account.
To test that it is working go to your wall on Facebook and copy/paste the address to one of your product details pages into your "Status" box. You don't need to submit it, as soon as you paste it in Facebook should go and look at that products page and after a short delay will display the product teaser image and description below your status box. This confirms that it is working as intended.
If you see any image that is not the products main teaser image, please contact support via email or support ticket. Be sure to include the Admin ID and (if applicable) the Page ID you made a note of earlier in the email.
